How to take measurements for a room

For sketching a floor plan:

Draw the approximate shape of the room and mark the location of any architectural features (i.e. doors, windows, fireplace, wardrobes, bookshelf, etc) and outlets.

Then measure the overall width and length of the room, as well the ceiling height.

Make sure to measure each wall separately and include measurements for each wall area, door, window and architectural features (see an example of floor plan sketch).

For sketching a wall elevation:

Draw the approximate shape of each wall elevation and mark the location of any architectural features (i.e. doors, windows, fireplace, wardrobes, bookshelf, etc) and outlets. Then measure the overall width and height of the wall. Make sure to measure each wall separately and include measurements for each wall area, door, window and architectural features (see an example of wall sketch).
