Project Description
The project concerns the conversion of an abandoned commercial space into a set of residential apartments, located within the historic area of Thessaloniki. The architectural study was developed within the context of an investment project, in direct alignment with the client’s business plan, aiming to reactivate an inactive building shell and transform it into functional, contemporary housing units that respond to current market demands. The design took into account the specific constraints of the existing structure, the requirements of the change of use, and the regulatory framework governing the historic area. Emphasis was placed on clear spatial organization, the functional integration of MEP systems, and the overall architectural coherence of the proposal, ensuring technical consistency and quality of execution from the design stage through construction, in conjunction with the required statutory approvals related to the site’s historic designation.
The office’s contribution to the project included:
– Preparation of the architectural study for the change of use of the property
– Selection of materials and design of built-in elements as an integral part of the architectural design
– Selection of materials, lighting fixtures, and furniture in relation to the functional and investment objectives of the project
– Coordination and collaboration with the MEP engineering consultant
– Preparation and coordination of the documentation for the issuance of the building permit
– Securing a positive opinion from the Υπηρεσία Νεωτέρων Μνημείων, due to the location of the project within a designated historic area
– Construction supervision
